Labor Secretary Marty Walsh has announced that he will be leaving his position in the Biden administration in March to assume the role of executive director for the National Hockey League Players’ Association. Walsh’s departure marks the first Cabinet secretary exit of Joe Biden’s presidency. Deputy Secretary Julie Su is being considered as Walsh’s replacement. The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus has recently thrown its support behind Su’s potential appointment in a significant public display of support for an Asian American to join Biden’s Cabinet. Su was believed to be among Biden’s finalists for labor secretary, the first time around that ultimately went to Walsh.
